Welcome to our Teacher Spotlight series. We decided to have some fun interviewing our teachers with some 'not so average' questions to get to know them better. First up, we headed over to Mrs. Danica's classroom to see what lies beneath the surface.
If you could trade places with any fictional teacher from a movie or TV show, who would it be and why? I'd have to go with Michelle Pfeiffer where she featured in the movie 'Dangerous Minds'. She just never gave up on her students, despite their disrespectful attitudes. She made sure she found a way to reach them. Amazing movie.
What's the most creative excuse for not doing homework you've ever heard from a student? My kids don't make excuses.
If you were a superhero, what would your teacher superpower be? Mind-reading, definitely. I' d love to know what goes on in my students' heads, especially when they start daydreaming.
What's the funniest thing a student has ever said during a class discussion? A little boy walked up to me in the middle of me explaining a long division sum and asked me: "Mam, can I go shoot the bunny?" I was mind-boggled and he eventually had to explain that it means he wants to go fart outside.
If you could give your students a "no homework" pass for a day, what would they have to do to earn it? You'd have to show proper respect and behaviour throughout the term to get a "no-homework" pass, or bribe me with chocolates, you never know, it might just work.
If you had to organize a teacher talent show, what would your talent be? As long as I don't have to do anything musical. So, actually, I'm screwed.
If you were stuck on a deserted island with your entire class, how would you organise the survival tasks? A) Find out who smokes in secret to ensure we have a way to light a fire. B) Find a spot to build a shelter. C) Send the girls to find a water source. D) Boys to gather wood ASAP. E) Build the shelter & make fire. F) FIND FOOD!!!
What's the most memorable gift a student has ever given you? A boy at a "catchment" school in England gave me a letter and asked me not to return to South Africa. He used a piece of paper from a class science experiment we once did to write the letter on. Most precious thing ever is to feel appreciated.
If you could give your students an imaginary pet to take care of in class, what kind of pet would it be, and what would its name be? A lemur... and we'll call him Fluffy. (My students will understand.)
If your teaching materials could talk, what do you think they'd say about you? "She clearly has a grudge against someone..."
Check in next month, to see who is next on the chopping block.
